H.E.R.O.E.S. Community Service Program
Benjamin Franklin once said that "the noblest question we can ask in the world is what good can we do in it?" After implementing our 7 Habits Character Education program at A.W. Brown-Fellowship Leadership Academy we began to ask this question of ourselves and students. Our H.E.R.O.E.S. Community Service Program was born out of that question. H.E.R.O.E.S. stands for Helping, Encouraging, Reaching Out and Enthusiastically Serving and for the past three years over 900 of our 5th and 6th grade students have done just that in the local community by sorting and packing food at the North Texas Food Bank, painting over graffiti on local business buildings, greeting returning U.S. soldiers home at the airport, winterizing Kiest Memorial Garden, planting trees, visiting the elderly, picking up trash along local roads and donating books for prison libraries.
This year our students will once again develop Leadership, Compassion, Citizenship and a strong Work Ethic as they benefit and bless the local community. One key ingredient and important strength of our program is parental involvement. During all of our Saturday community service projects parents and/or guardians are REQUIRED to be present and encouraged, along with other family members, to be involved and this has led to a truly family friendly atmosphere...and a lot of hardworking fun!
During this 2014-2015 academic school year our H.E.R.O.E.S. will have a greater impact on our local community than ever before! Come join the movement to make a difference!
